"My daughter, we are nearly done with the preparations for my coronation," Nze Okoro informed Mma.

"You've truly made your mother and me proud. Who would have thought that after we disowned you, you would rise to such remarkable heights," Nze Okoro added.

The next day, Mma went back to the city as planned. She made her way directly to Nkem's school to pick him up. When they surpassed their usual turnoff, Nkem inquired, "Mom, haven't we passed our street?"

"I've secured a new apartment for us," Mma explained.

Upon arrival, Nkem was brimming with excitement.

"Mom, I absolutely adore this place. My room is stunning; I no longer wish to live in the hostel," declared Nkem.

"How quickly can you get ready? I'm dropping you at my boutique, where my sales assistant will look after you. I've got an appointment to keep," Mma said.

By now, Mma had resolved to go on a date with Ejike.

Mma sent Ejike a text, "Could you pick me up at my boutique as you suggested? I'll leave my car there."

Ejike, overjoyed, responded immediately, "Yes, heading over now."

"Good afternoon, Uncle," Nkem greeted.

"Wow, it's great to see you've grown so much, you're such a big boy now," Ejike remarked.

"Nkem, go inside, can't you see I have a guest?" Mma said sternly.

"You got here quickly, did you fly?" Mma teased.

"They say opportunity only knocks once. I've been waiting for this moment for a long time, 'My Princess,'" Ejike confessed.

"Your Princess? Wait a minute. Has someone been talking about me?" Mma inquired with a puzzled look.

"What do you mean?" Ejike asked, eager for clarification.

"I'm curious, how did you know I am a Princess?" Mma queried.

"It's simple; my heart belongs to you," Ejike declared.

"Stop it with the flattery already, where are you taking me?" Mma playfully protested.

"It's going to be a surprise. Come on, let's get in the car and go," Ejike said enticingly.

And with that, they drove off.

Ejike sent a message to Mma, expressing his concern about not having received a response to his date request.

Mma responded with a text message, explaining that she had gone to the village but would be back soon. She suggested they could discuss the date upon her return.

While visiting the village market square, Mma's beauty captured everyone's attention, earning her the adoration as their new princess. However, some maidens whispered rumors about her pregnancy, questioning if she had terminated it since she returned without a child after many years.

The market women welcomed her warmly, offering gifts and addressing her as "My Princess."

Word of her return spread throughout the village, leading some maidens at the market to volunteer to carry the gifts to Mma's house since she couldn't manage them by herself.

Upon her arrival home, her parents were pleasantly surprised to see her accompanied by maidens laden with gifts.

The maidens greeted Mma's parents respectfully as "My King" and "My Queen."

Nze Okoro, warmly welcoming the maidens, responded with gratitude.

Mma's mother, surprised by the abundance of goods, remarked that Mma should have used her car for such purchases. Mma informed her that those were gifts from the market women.

Mma shared her experience at the market, expressing her astonishment at the attention and gifts she received, unsure of whether to accept or ignore them.

Turning to her father, Mma inquired about the preparations for his coronation, mentioning her plan to return to the city early the next morning but intending to visit her friend Adaora that evening.

Adaora reached out to Mma over the phone.

"Mma, I have some news for you," Adaora announced on the call.

"So much has unfolded in the village. Unfortunately, the King has passed away; your Uncle, who was the Eze Igwe III of the Amazu Accent Kingdom, has been laid to rest," shared Adaora further.

Mma was overwhelmed with shock and began to weep uncontrollably.

"Please, Mma, try to compose yourself. The news of the King's demise wasn't the sole reason for my call," Adaora attempted to soothe her.

"Your parents were overjoyed with the gifts you sent them. Moreover, your father is poised to be crowned the next King, becoming the Eze Igwe IV of the Amazu Accent Kingdom," she conveyed the uplifting news.

"Do you grasp the significance? You'll be Princess, and your mother will ascend to the status of Queen," Adaora continued, building on the joyous future awaiting Mma.

Yet, Mma remained distraught over the loss of the King.

"I regret mentioning the King's passing initially; you really must gather your strength," Adaora admitted remorsefully.

"I'll be returning to the city in a couple of days," she then informed Mma.

The very next morning, Mma made her journey back to the village to reunite with her parents.

Her parents welcomed her with immense joy, having not seen her for years.

"My child, your mother and I deeply regret the way we treated you during your time of need," Eze Okoro confessed.

"We were blinded by our desire to protect our standing within the church, not realizing it only exacerbated the issues," Eze Okoro continued, expressing his remorse.

"It's all in the past now, Dad. Those times were challenging, but I am thankful for where I stand today," Mma responded with grace.

"When you left, you were pregnant. What happened to the child?" inquired Mma's mother with concern.

"I didn't bring him with me. I was supposed to pick him up today, but I hurried back to the village after hearing the news from Adaora," Mma clarified.

"His name is Nkem; he's grown so much," she shared fondly.

"He's a boy? This is wonderful news! At least there is someone to continue your legacy after your reign," Mma's mother exclaimed with happiness.

"Mma, whose red car did you arrive in?" Eze Okoro asked with curiosity.

"The car is mine; thanks to my friend Eriana's help, I have now achieved considerable success in the city," Mma proudly explained.

"Have you tried reaching out to Mma's childhood friends, Eriana and Adaora? They might know Mma's whereabouts or at least have her contact," Adanne asked.

"Not really, but I don't think either of them is still in the village. The last time I saw them was when they came to plead on Mma's behalf, but my wife and I didn't give them the time of day. My wife said a lot of things that drove them away in anger," Nze Okoro responded.

"Well, I suggest going to see their parents; maybe I could get their contact numbers," Adanne said.

When she arrived at Adaora's house, she found it empty. Just as she was about to leave, Adaora arrived, honking her horn to signal her parents that she was back.

"Good afternoon, Auntie Adanne," Adaora greeted.

"Good afternoon, Adaora. It's good to see you. It seems your parents and siblings are at the farm. I've been knocking, but no one answered," Adanne said.

"Is everything okay? It's unusual for you to come by our house," Adaora replied.

"There's no problem. I'm actually here to see you. I was going to visit Eriana's house next, but something told me to come here first," Adanne explained.

"You look beautiful; city life must be treating you well," Adanne added.

"I have a message for your brother and his wife. Their daughter Mma asked me to deliver something to them," Adaora replied.

"Really? How is Mma? Is she okay? Her father sent me to collect your number from your parents, in case you knew anything about Mma's whereabouts," Adanne inquired.

"Mma is doing very well; she misses her parents a lot. Come, let's get into my car and go see Mma's parents," Adaora suggested.

"This is your car?" Adanne asked, curious.

"Yes, it is. I'm back in town for my traditional and white wedding preparations and I wanted to officially invite you," Adaora happily shared.

"This is indeed a double blessing - a car and a husband! I'm overjoyed for you," Adanne remarked.

They continued their conversation on the way to Mma's parents' house.

Nze Okoro was overjoyed to hear that Mma and his grandchild were doing well. Mma's mother apologized to Adaora for how she had treated her and Eriana before, likening them to "birds of the same feather."

Mma's parents joyfully accepted the gifts from their daughter Mma.

"Can we go on a date?" Ejike asked.

Mma, in response, said, "Well, I will think about it."

"When was the last time you heard from Nkem (your son)?" Ejike inquired.

"I called him this morning to check on him. He'll be returning from his holiday, but I need to pick him up before the weekend since he isn't aware that I've moved to a new apartment. I didn't bother telling him at the time," Mma replied.

"I would like to take my leave. Let me inform my friend Eriana before going," Mma said.

Mma went upstairs and informed Eriana.

"Can I drop you off?" Ejike offered.

"Thanks for your kind gesture, but I came with my car," Mma replied.

"You mean the red car?" Ejike asked curiously.

"Yes," Mma replied.

"Wow, that's good. Everything happened so fast, and you didn't even call to celebrate with you," Ejike said.

"In that case, I'll be your driver. If I drop you off with your car, I will return with a taxi and pick up my own car," Ejike added.

"Don't bother yourself," Mma replied as she took her leave.

Some days later, Adaora visited her two best friends, Eriana and Mma, to invite them to her Traditional Marriage and White Wedding.

"Mma, I would like you to be my chief bridesmaid. We'll be traveling to our village for the preparation of my Traditional Marriage," Adaora said.

"No problem, extend my regards to my parents. I have really missed them, though they seem to have forgotten about me. I wish they are fine," Mma replied.

"I will give you something to give to my parents. If they accept gifts from me, then I will know they have forgiven my past," Mma added.

"How about your friend?" Adaora asked.

"You mean Ejike?" Mma replied.

"Wait, his name is Ejike? The best friend of Eriana's husband?" Adaora asked curiously.

"Yes, so you know him too. He asked me out on a date," Mma replied.

"What did you tell him?" Adaora inquired.

"I told him I will think about it," Mma replied.

"Ejike is a nice guy. There's nothing to think about; just go on a date with him," Adaora advised.

"Take good care of yourself, Mma, and you too, Adaora," they both said in farewell.

"Thank you so much, Eriana, for rescuing me during my difficult times. You truly are a real friend," Mma expressed.

"That's what friends are for, helping each other out. You've been a great help to me and our friend Adaora as well. I’ll always remember the strong bond we've forged since we were children," replied Eriana.

"My friend, I've been meaning to mention that you still have the opportunity to achieve your academic aspirations. With finances looking up now, enrolling in a part-time program alongside your business could be feasible, especially since you have sales assistants," Eriana suggested.

Eriana then inquired, "Speaking of which, what about that friend who brightened your day over the phone the last time I visited?"

"It’s nothing too serious, as I’ve already mentioned. Although he brings me joy, I’m hesitant because I don’t wish to repeat the mistakes I made at a younger age," Mma responded.

While they were conversing, a knock on the door interrupted them.

"Let me see who it is," said Eriana.

Upon opening the door, she was met with the sight of Ejike, her husband's best friend.

"Is your husband home? I've been trying to reach him but his phone is switched off. We have new business to discuss," Ejike stated.

"Please, come in," Eriana welcomed him.

Mma and Ejike were both taken aback by their unexpected encounter, with Mma feeling particularly nervous upon seeing Ejike.

"Do you two know each other?"

"Yes, she’s a friend of mine," Ejike replied. "He's the friend we were just talking about," added Mma.

Ejike, curious, asked, "What were you discussing about me before I arrived?"

"Never mind," Mma replied dismissively.

"What can I offer you?" Eriana asked. "I'm good, thanks," Ejike responded.

"In that case, I'll leave you two to talk," she said, then went upstairs.

Mma, curious, asked, "What brings you here? Have you been following me?"

"Not exactly, I was just following my heart, and it led me here, I guess," Ejike replied with a smile.

The seer anticipated the King's arrival each day to conduct the purification rituals, yet Igwe III from the Amazu Accent Kingdom failed to appear.

Enraged by his disregard for her healing powers, she placed a curse on the King for his mockery.

She cautioned Elder Agu to exclude her from any future matters concerning the King, before leaving in sorrow.

Eight days later, the monarch of Umuazu Accent Kingdom passed away, joining his ancestors.

His death stirred a commotion throughout the entire community and its surroundings.

While the elders convened to arrange the King's burial, disagreements prevented them from reaching a unanimous decision.

Elder Agu accused Nze Okoro (Mma’s father) of contributing to the King's demise by inviting a Catholic priest for healing, sparking a conflict among the elders who supported Nze Okoro.

Following the funeral, the Onuowu assumed control over the community affairs as the prime minister, in anticipation of the next King's coronation.

Adanne sought Nze Okoro to discuss his impending coronation.

Adanne suggested that Nze Okoro should first reconcile his family by bringing back his daughter Mma and grandchild.

She reminded him of his profound knowledge of the kingdom's customs, particularly regarding children born outside marriage, who are integrated into the mother’s family.

Nze Okoro was silent, regretful of his decision to support his wife in ostracizing their only daughter.

Adanne pointed out that Mma’s situation could turn into a blessing if her child is a boy, ensuring a successor for Nze Okoro’s future kingship.

Adanne, expressing her concern as his only sister, urged him to contact their cousin in the city who might know Mma’s whereabouts.

Nze Okoro acknowledged her advice, mentioning that the Reverend Father gave him similar counsel to reunite with his daughter.

Immediately, he phoned his cousin in the city, though their conversation yielded no positive leads on Mma’s whereabouts.

They expanded their search to the neighboring communities in hopes of finding her.

Nze Okoro was tormented by sleepless nights, pondering the fate of his daughter and whether she would ever forgive him and her mother.

Overwhelmed with emotion, she began to cry as she started recounting her ordeal with the gatekeeper.

With a heart laden with sorrow, Mma managed to narrate her experience.

"It's not your fault, Mma," Ejike offered comfort. He then inquired, "How is your son? I met him at your workplace years ago."

"He's doing very well," responded Mma.

Attempting to lift her spirits, Ejike suggested she eat something. Mma declined, expressing her desire to depart immediately.

"Why not inform my gatekeeper he has a child with you?" Ejike proposed.

"I want to leave. There’s no point in telling him now. He ruined my life, leading to my parents disowning me. When I returned seeking him, he was nowhere to be found," Mma stated angrily.

"All I need now is a decent job to support myself and a place to live," Mma added.

"We have an opening in my company for a receptionist, and regarding accommodation, you can stay at my place," Ejike offered.

"Thank you so much for the job offer. However, I cannot stay at your place," Mma respectfully declined.

Mma’s phone rang with Adaora on the line, "Where are you, Mma? I'm here with our friend Eriana. Let's go out together."

The reunion of the three best friends was nothing short of joyous.

It was a much-needed diversion for Mma, helping her to momentarily forget her woes.

Eriana proposed helping Mma start her own business and even offered to rent an apartment for her. This gesture greatly lifted Mma's spirits. Adaora then took her on a shopping spree.

Mma's inherent beauty made her stand out amongst her peers.

Ejike reached out to Mma on a Sunday evening.

"I've not had any communication from you regarding the job since you left. I hope everything is alright," Ejike added.

"I'm terribly sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I have decided to start my own business instead. Nonetheless, I'm truly grateful for your offer and your kindness during my difficult times," Mma explained.

From then on, Mma and Ejike struck up a friendship.

"It's been a long time since I've seen you this happy," Adaora observed during a visit to Mma's workplace, noticing her joyful demeanor.

"Welcome, Adaora. What can I offer you?" Mma greeted her.

"I'm fine, thank you. But do tell, who was that on the phone that had you all smiles?" Adaora asked curiously.

"Oh, that was just a friend I was chatting with on the phone, nothing significant," Mma replied lightly.

"Okay, oh," chuckled Adaara, as they both erupted in laughter.

Adaora, one of Mma’s childhood friends, encountered her at the hospital while she was there to visit her very ill boss.

Their greeting was warm, filled with joy at seeing each other for the first time in over13 years since they had parted ways for secondary school.

“How have you been, Mma?” inquired Adaora.

“My dear, I’m doing quite well, although my madam’s illness is worsening by the day. I have so much to catch up on with you,” Mma responded.

Throughout their meeting, Mma and Adaora reminisced about the past, and their conversation stretched on for a while. Before parting ways, they exchanged contacts.

“By the way, have you been in contact with Eriana, our friend?” Mma questioned.

“Yes, we live in the same estate. She’s happily married with two children and owns one of the biggest supermarkets in this city, Eriana-Supermarket. She married a wealthy man,” Adaora replied.

“I’m truly happy for her. I would love to get her contact from you before you leave,” Mma expressed eagerly.

“How's your child? I’m really sorry about how your parents reacted to your pregnancy. Eriana and I tried visiting you, but your mom turned us away, branding us birds of a feather,” reflected Adaora.

“It's all in the past now. Raising a child at16 wasn’t easy, but he’s grown now. I named him ‘Nkem’, meaning ‘My Own’. He’s currently in secondary school under a scholarship,” revealed Mma.

Four days later, a call from the hospital led Mma to rush over immediately.

“Doctor, how is my madam?” Mma inquired urgently.

“Please calm down, young lady,” the doctor replied soothingly.

“We did our best, but unfortunately, she didn’t make it,” the doctor added somberly.

Upon hearing of her boss’s demise, Mma fainted, only to awaken later on a hospital bed. It was then that her Madam’s relatives, who had been absent throughout the illness, began to arrive.

When Mma tried to contact Adaora, she found her phone switched off. Eriana’s husband answered the call, but Mma, overwhelmed and unsure what to say, ended the call abruptly.

The loss of her boss plunged Mma into a state of despair. Suddenly homeless and jobless, she found herself utterly stranded.

In desperation, she remembered a business card a customer had given her some time back. With no other options, she made the call but was too overwhelmed with grief to speak.

When the customer called back and Mma answered, she managed to say, “It’s Mma, the POS lady you gave your card,” before ending the call abruptly.

The young man found Mma in her state of distress. “What happened?” he asked with concern.

Mma was too distraught to respond.

Upon their arrival at the man’s house, the gatekeeper greeted them with “Oga, welcome.”

As Mma stepped out of the car, she found herself face to face with the gate man who had fathered her child13 years prior. Speechless, they stared at each other, caught in a moment of disbelief.

“Do you two know each other?” the man inquired, sensing the tension.

“It’s a long story,” Mma replied, hinting at the depth of their unexpected reunion.

During the meeting, the drama unfolded as the elders were unable to reach a final decision on the solution for the King's health, leading to the meeting's end due to misunderstandings among them.

Nze Okoro offered his suggestion based on his beliefs. "We all know he's a devoted member of the Catholic faith," remarked one of the elders as they walked towards their homes.

The next day, at their rescheduled meeting, the elders were divided. Supporters of Nze Okoro proposed inviting a Catholic priest, while others sided with Elder Agu to call upon a powerful seer.

The simultaneous arrival of both the Catholic priest and the seer was coincidental.

"May the peace of the Lord be with this household," declared the Catholic priest as he entered to pray over the King.

Meanwhile, the seer performed rituals outside. After concluding, she announced a seven-day period of purification and cleansing, after which she claimed the King would be healed.

After the Catholic priest finished his prayers, he proceeded to sprinkle Holy water outside the house, blessing the elders gathered there. However, Elder Agu and a few others frowned at this gesture. Suddenly, the seer cried out, "Abomination! Abomination! Abomination!" as the priest inadvertently sprinkled Holy water on her before leaving.

Three days later, the King's recovery brought joy to the community, with some attributing the miracle to the Catholic priest and others to the seer.

The debate spread across the community. Nze Okoro and his supporters attended Thanksgiving in the church, while Elder Agu and the others awaited the completion of the seer's seven-day purification process. However, the King declined to participate in the purification since he had already recovered.

"Long live the King," greeted Onuowu, expressing happiness for the King's recovery but suggesting the completion of the purification. The King, angered, forbade Onuowu from ever raising the matter again.
